A lidded baluster jar of the kind the Chinese call a temple or ginger jar, painted in soft famille rose enamels with peonies, trailing wisteria and a single bird among the blooms. The peony 牡丹 has always stood for wealth and standing, so a jar like this was meant to be quietly aspirational. The domed cover carries a line of calligraphy, and it sits on a pierced hardwood stand carved to echo its shape, about 28 cm to the top of the lid. It isn't flawless: there is some orange spotting to the lid and shoulder, a little wear to the base rim, and a faint hairline at the shoulder you can see with the cover off, all in the photos.
